The Tashinga Initiative

Samansco brings water, light and energy to The Tashinga Initiative efforts in Wildlife Conservation and Environmental Protection “Multi-Year Contract Awarded to Zimbabwe's leading Renewable Energy Supplier for pilot project covering 12 installations over two years.”

The efforts of Non-Governmental Organization, The Tashinga Initiative, to assist and train Anti- Poaching Rangers in the Matusadona National Park and along the banks of Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe lead to the awarding of a multi-year contract to Samansco, a leading renewable energy contractor to power at least 12 installations at six sites from August 2008 to January 2010. Once these initial sites have been installed, over 100,000 litres of clean water will be available for National Park Rangers, their families and communities as part of The Tahsinga Initiative’s drive to improve the quality of life and operational capabilities of the Parks Rangers in and around the Matusadona National Park.

Supplied by Samansco, water pumping sites identified have been installed with Solar Water Pumping Systems that are fully automated to meet the communities water needs, as well as Solar Power System powering Ranger Base camps with power for lighting, computer and internet equipment. Ranger staff housing at each site were also solar powered. Samansco's experience in working in rugged African conditions proved invaluable given the remote nature of the projects, with sites only accessible by 4X4 vehicles and by boat in most cases. A major benefit of the durable and extremely low maintenance solar systems, has been the reduced cost of transporting diesel fuel to these remote sites, thus avoiding reliance of fossil fuel burning generators and the associated exhaust pollution and noise effect within the natural surroundings of the Matusadona National Park.
